Teresa Biedron Moraniec


TERESA BIEDRON MORANIEC

 

Born in 1883 to Bartholomew Biedron and Teresa Grochowski (1862-7 Aug 1919 38 St Hedwig Detroit, buried 9 Aug 1919 Holy Cross Cemetery)  in Glinik, Podkarpackie, Poland. Teresa’s grandparents were Stanislau and Mary Grochowski.

She had a brother, named John Biedron (b. 1889 Austria) who married a Tekla Pajak (b. 1896 Austria). Their children were: Joseph, John, and Edward (7 Oct 1919 d. May 1986 in Livonia).

Teresa also had a sister named Maria.

Michael Moraniec says: It was reported (via Hank Klauke) by Michael Moraniec that Theresa was actually Josephine’s half-sister.

The Michigan marriage record, indicates Theresa had been married once before she married Big Joe.

Theresa immigrated in 1905. She sailed on 17 June  on the SS Noordam from Rotterdam and arrived in New York on 27 June 1905. She was 24, single, a servant, from Glinik. Her passage was paid by her cousin. She’s going to her cousin, Maryanna Garbacik at 17 Otis Street.She became a naturalized citizen in 1910, Michigan.

She married Jozef Moraniec on 4 Jun 1907 in Detroit. The witnesses were Jan Wisnieski and Francis Nowak. They had 5 children: Josephine, Michael, Stanley, Joseph jr., Adeline.

Another Mary Moraniec appears to have been adopted by Joe and was an earlier daughter of Teresa’s from Poland.

In the 1928-29 Detroit City Directory Teresa is listed as running the restaurant at 4810 Cabot Avenue Detroit.

Her mother, Teresa, b. abt. 1862 in Glinik, immigrated in 1910 on the SS Rhein, sailing from Bremen on April 29, sailed into the Port of Baltimore, was widowed, and a cook by profession. Perhaps she was the cook in her daughter’s restaurant. She died from stomach cancer on 7 Aug1919 and is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery. Her last address was living with her son, John at 38 St. Hedwig Street.

 

Theresa Biedron Moraniec died at 10 Mar 1940 in Detroit of cerebral hemorrhage.

Theresa was buried 13 March at Holy Cross Cemetery beside her husband, Jozef. Grave 879, Lot 200, Section H. Their gravestone says “They made home happy.”
