Descendants of Andrej Lasecki & Francis Rozmarynowska
Andrej Lasecki b.abt.1821, probably in Cseszewo to my 3rd Great-Grandparents, Martin Lasecki and Franciska Szymanska (sp uncertain). His parents married 1817 in Legowo, making Andrej one of their eldest. He was a day-laborer or a servant at various times. I surmise that since he moved so often, he owned next to nothing and was hired on an as-needed basis by the nobles in the area.
According to online records of the Poznan Project, on 9 May 1852 in Redgosz, Andrej married Franciska (Francis) Rozmarynowska b. 4 Aug 1825, Lekno, Prussia-Poland. Lekno is also north of Wagrowiec; the village is not very far from Czeszewo and the other villages we find Andrej living in. The family moved around quite a bit as you’ll notice from the birth locations, but they were all in the greater Wagrowiec area.
Francis and Andrej gave birth to 7 children. Thus far we have found 5! Still hunting for two more. Here’s what we know of their children:
1. Jan Lasecki b. 1 Jun 1853 Niemczyn, Kozielsko, Wagrowiec, Poland. He married Magdalena Kaczmarek in Lopienno, 1879.
2.Marianna Lasecki b. 13 Jan 1855 Cseszewo, Poland. She was 26 years old when she emigrated with her parents and Antoni in 1882 on the ship, the Hermann sailing from Bremen to Baltimore. The same time she landed, there is a record for Albert Rybicki, farmer, (last name misspelled in the record) arriving in Baltimore on another ship, the Strassbourg. Family lore states that the two met on the ship, though I think they may have met in Baltimore. We found a marriage –or marriage intention in 1876 Grylewo…..how does this add up? Anyone have a thought to explain this?
At any rate, Marianna and Albert married and had six children while living in Detroit:
John Peter b. 1885 d. 1951
Michael b. 1888 d. 1953
William (Boleslaw) b. 1890 d. 1959
Anthony b. 1891 d. 1943 Married Rosemary Klatt
Steven b. 1892 d. 1967
Josephine Marianna b. 1896

Francis died in 1914 in Wayne County Poorhouse aka Eloise.
PS there are 2 more possible children we are searching for, could they be:
Laurence (Wawrzyniec) b. 1854 is a possible son. When he was 24, in 1877, he married Rosalie Graminska in Czeszewo. They had a large family and raised them in Dunkirk NY.
OR Michael Lasecki b. 1862

Hello folks! Do you have any more info about the Laseckis around Green Bay, WI? I suspect that my husband is a descendant of a Leo Lasecki who died in a car crash on July 10, 1939 in Shawano County (you can Google for news clips). Leo isn’t listed among the children of Frank Lasecki in the above article posted by Matt, but maybe he was born later or otherwise related? Thanks, Motria
Motria, and Matt,
I have looked quite a bit, but without some kind of record that links the Laseckis in WI with the Laseckis in Michigan (and/or Dunkirk NY) , I’m afraid we’re stuck. It’s just a guess that they are connected. Perhaps you know something more, and, if so, please email me. I would LOVE to link these families. Do either of you have trees on ancestry?
Your comments are always appreciated.
Sincerely,
carolyngrady at gmail
The Wisconsin document says Michael Lasecki was born in Poland, so probably a different Michael from the one listed on this blog. Sorry, I don’t have any other info – we don’t have any contact with Green Bay family. The only history we know is hubby’s other half from Scotland.
I like this blog! Good luck to everyone with their research on family history and Polish culture.
Thank you so much! I appreciate your kind words and your interest in the history….and I appreciate the heads up about the WI Laseckis. Will keep them in the back of my mind for the future…..you never know what connections will turn up!
My name is Gail Owen Botwin, daughter of Anita and Chuck Owen. Just started looking into our ancestry and wanted to point out that Anita’s correct DOB is July 6, 1923. Anita and Chuck had three children: Gail Mary born 6/7/1948 (living in Chicago), Jill Anne born 8/11/49 (living in Heber City, Utah), and David, age 3 months at time of death from SIDS. I am married to Victor Botwin (no children). Jill is married to Terrence Kasper and has three girls: Laura, Lisa and Sara.
And thank you for all your research! I wish I could find the same amount of detailed info on the Owen side of our family.
Gail, Thanks for Stopping by!!!
Always happy to hear from a cousin. And thank you for the correction. As far as the Owen family research, just keep chipping away. We knew precious little when we began. Slowly, and not in a smooth progression (there were/are long periods when nothing new is learned), but then whammo! your entire vision of what you thought you knew about the family shifts on multiple fronts.
Have you considered getting DNA tested? Personally, that has yielded quite a bit of new info. I recommend familytreedna, if you are wondering about a reputable company. Several of my sibs and Aunt Gladys, have tested through them. The more people who test, the more info. we’ll be able to thread out. Anyway, that’s my plug; I hope you;ll consider it.
Thanks again for your comment. You made my day 🙂
Gail, Sorry I never responded to your lovely comment. I DID appreciate it and the info you shared. In fact, because of it, I was able to connect with Sara via the dna testing. I would not have known who she was otherwise.
It’s because of comments like yours that I continue the research and connecting with cousins. I know how hungry I was for information on my Polish ancestors….and still want more!!!
Please stay in touch.
cousin carolyn
Thank you!
I am the granddaughter of Anita Catherine Breycha. My name is Sara Kasper. Her two daughters are my mother, Jill Kasper, and my aunt Gain Botwin. I will be happy to supply photos and more info as able.
Sara, Thank you VERY much for your comment. I’m so happy to know another Lasecki descendent. AND I Love photos! In particular, do you have copies of any documents? Usually theyoungest child ends up with them, but you neve know. ..and since Marie was the eldest girl, I suspect she had a lot of responsibilities. At least, that is what we heard of Walter’s growing up after their father, Anthony left.
Don’t know anything about your side of the tree. I will send you an email with more personal info.
Thanks again for contacting us.
